The 2019 FRM GARP curriculum has been released! :)

We have received questions about when the 2019 materials will be available. This year, GARP did not make many changes at all to the curriculum, so most of the materials that are currently published in the study planner will still be relevant for the 2019 exams.

We will continue to add new and updated materials throughout the exam period. This year, we will be greatly focused on creating new instructional videos that need updating and creating new and updated focus review videos. Of course, we will still be publishing new practice questions each week, and we will make sure that the study notes and spreadsheets that are currently published are updated to reflect any changes in 2019.

There are two ways for you to see when new materials are published:

1. A "NEW" symbol will appear next to the new materials in the study planner. Please note that any time we change anything on the webpage it will add a NEW symbol, so always make sure to check the update links that are listed below in #2.

2. We will keep a list of newly published materials in the forum with the updated/publish date for Part 1 and Part 2.
We ask all of our users to please refrain from asking when specific materials will be published, as each time we have to answer this status update question, it takes valuable time away from our preparation. We appreciate your patience during this very busy time. We want to make sure our subscribers have the most up-to-date, quality materials possible!

Curriculum Change Spreadsheet: For reference, here is our spreadsheet that shows the changes that were made to the curriculum in 2019: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/2018-2019-curriculum-change-analysis-spreadsheet.22025/.

Please visit these links on our FAQ page to learn more about our publishing process, and why you may not see some materials published.
Thank you all for using Bionic Turtle, and we wish you luck in your studies!!

I've gone through the Bodie reading and now doing the questions. Is it me or does the reading not having anything about APT but the questions seem to be asking about it. There's also a few places where I felt the questions were asking materials that weren't explicitly taught in the reading texts. Is anyone else having this occurrence? Is the curriculum not updated to the lastest 2019 EOC? Thanks all.

@VWJETTY Not sure what you mean. Bodie 10 is all about APT (the initial sections are setup/foundation for APT). GARP's LOs don't explicate "APT" until the final "Describe the Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT) ..." because it's implicit throughout. The questions are all based on the same Chapter that's been assigned since at least 2014 (i.e., questions 40x...). @Nicole Seaman looks like there is a slight change in semantics re the LOs?

Re: Is the curriculum not updated to the lastest 2019 EOC?
Um, the LOs just got released earlier this month, so of course not everything is updated yet. Of course not. We don't have magic wands actually ;) we have to apply "work effort" over time

Oh I see. Sorry, I think I might have mixed my binder out of order per the Study Planner. So I'll back-track into APT once I finish that reading then. Thanks! It's a good thing some of this stuff is a repeat from the CFA curriculum. Going through this treynor and sharpe ratio stuff like a hot knife through butter.

Yeah I decided I needed a head start with this material so I don't freak out the last month or so.

Hello @VWJETTY

To add to David's response above, this publishing process thread is important for all of our members to read, as it explains how and when we publish throughout the exam period: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/important-please-read-publishing-process-for-2019.22026/.

I also want to add that we ask our members to be specific about which reading (i.e. Bodie) they are posting about. There are many readings within the first topic of the FRM curriculum, so it is helpful to us and other members if you specifically state which reading you are referring to. We can usually figure it out, but it helps if it is right in front of us ;)

Thank you,

Nicole

Hello, I have a quick question : do you intend to indicate whether you will make changes to existing materials based on the changes in the curriculum? This could be helpful to determine the order of topics which I should follow to take notes (in order to postpone the note taking of topics where you actually intend to make changes).

For instance, for part I, it seems that for some topics, the learning objectives are the same , but the edition version of the book changed. For others, the learning objectives have been slightly amended.

Thanks !

@horovma

We do not provide a publishing calendar if that is what you mean. However, we generally update the notes for readings that have had changes in the learning objectives first. After we have finished those, we move to any notes that have not been updated in a while. We are constantly updating our materials to improve. When we update materials, we will post in the "Updated materials" thread in the forum so you know that the notes have been updated. If there are only small changes made in the notes, I will make a note of that in the update thread so you know what has been changed. I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi Nicole/David,

When do we expect new notes for current issues, 2019 material? I still do not see them updated under study notes for year 2019.

Thanks

Hello @jaivipin

We are currently working on getting new materials published for 2019. Please see our publishing process here, which explains that it takes time to prepare and publish quality materials: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/important-please-read-publishing-process-for-2019.22026/. A great deal of the materials in the study planner from 2018 are still relevant to the 2019 exam, and any new or updated materials will be published throughout the exam period.

Thank you,

Nicole

Thanks Nicole. I was looking current issues since that is all together new. They added I think 5 new topics. I agree most of the other syllabus is not much different.

HI @jaivipin To be candid, we've prioritized writing practice questions for the new T9. Current Issues. My view is that Study Notes add less value for the Current Issue readings than practice questions: unlike the rest of the syllabus, there exist no good historical sample of Current Issue questions (e.g., GARP has no included them in the last 4+ years of their own practice papers). So I try really hard to add value by writing careful, detailed questions for the Current Issue readings (like last week's https://forum.bionicturtle.com/thre...d-possible-effects-fsb-fin-part-2-of-2.22135/). Thanks!

Hi! I might be wrong, but can't find John Hull's chapter 17 from Risk Management and Financial Institutions. When it would be provided?

Hello @Dinashka

Please note that I moved your question here to this thread. Chapter 17 was added to the FRM curriculum this year. We are aware of this addition and will add materials for this chapter as soon as we can. Please be sure to read the original post in this thread, which explains our publishing process.

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi,

On the 2019 FRM study guide it says that for Op Risk it is required to read from John Hull Risk Management book chapters 15,16,17 and 18, But on the study notes only three of them appear: chaper 15,16 and 18. Chapter 17: Regulation of the OTC derivatives market is missing, do you plan to update this notes soon?

Thanks,

Hello @Mariana ZF

Please note that I moved your question to this thread, which provides information on our publishing process. Although we cannot usually provide update information on specific materials, I can tell you that we are currently working on updating this set of notes and they will be published as soon as possible.

Ok Nicole, thanks! And thanks for moving my post to this thread. I see that @Dinashka asked the same question (different wording) than me over a month ago hehe.

Hi. I can't seem to find it in Part one material list. I see only 7 video and PDFs. Can someone point me to it please? Thanks

Hello @JsWang

We are updating all of our focus review videos this year. If there is a focus review video mentioned in one of the videos (i.e. 8th of 8), but it is not in the study planner, it means that the content in that missing video is no longer relevant to the current curriculum and we have removed it.

Thank you,

Nicole
